Design Blogger Profile: Holly Becker of decor8!

Continuing with our mission to highlight and share some of our favorite design bloggers on the web, today we cover Holly Becker, the brains and talents behind the popular website decor8, a design blog dedicated to bringing readers daily design inspiration in a colorful and unique way!

According to her website, Becker’s always been a creative type, contributing her current talents to her parents, who taught her as a child many creative endeavors, like “sewing, floral design, decorating, landscaping, gardening, organizing and how to run a small business.” As with many interior designers, Becker has plenty of stories of rearranging her parents’ furniture in her past, and these rearranging urges no doubt had an impact on her current career. Becker didn’t get straight into the creative field, though, instead taking a ten year detour in the financial and investment field. While you might think that sounds a bit boring, Becker actually had a creative position while in the financial field managing “office space redesigns, international and domestic relocation, and large-scale building projects alongside a team of architects and designers.”

Luckily in 2006, Becker decided to step away from the financial world and get creative full time, launching the decor8 website (a play on the word “decorate”). Almost instantaneously, it became a hit. Now, the site reaches nearly 25,000 readers daily. You won’t find repeats or just anything on the decor8 website; Becker searches out the best one-of-a-kind design finds like new products, furniture and art as well as showcases ideas in hopes of inspiring others with their own homes. Some of the most popular posts feature home tours, interviews, tips, ideas, reviews and contests. The layout of décor8 is a treat: organized, cheery, bright, exciting and easy to find what you’re looking for or just browse for fun. As with many design blogs out there, our favorite is the photos! We like how colorful everything is; you’re sure to take inspiration in any of the photos or ideas Becker posts, and because she posts multiple times a day, you’ll never run out of inspiration!

Combining her love of writing with her love of design, Becker also offers client design consultations, helping people make their homes more gorgeous and efficient! And if you can’t get enough of Becker you can check out her ideas with HGTV and HGTV.com or visit her other blog, Haus Maus, where she chronicles living in Germany part of the year and America the rest of the year.

If you’re not already a fan of decor8, you’ll want to check the site out. And, you can also check out some of our previous design bloggers we’ve profiled, like Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge, Jane Freiman of AtticMag, Erin Loechner of Design for Mankind and Anh Minh Le of anh-minh.com.
