Our last
“Perfect Pair” saw us combining the natural, organic look of Japanese-American designer George Nakashima with stunning Vintage Murano Table Lamps in a Pulegoso Net Pattern. This week, we’re focused on the gorgeous “skyscraper” furniture of Mid-Century designer Paul Frankl, who you can read more about in yesterday's designer influence piece.
We fell in love with this skyscraper chair in particular. Completed in the 1940s, this lounge chair has many of the characteristics common in Frankl’s skyscraper furniture, like a play with geometric shapes and a painted finish, in this case a gorgeous and glossy black lacquer. The upholstery on this piece comes with textured silk and neutral-colored rectangular cushions. We just love the heavy, sturdy base of this chair with the substantial and high legs. Though, our favorite thing about this chair is of course the geometric look of the arms and back. This is definitely a chair to be enjoyed from all angles!

Swank Lighting’s Classic Style Murano Glass Lamps comes in a gorgeous orange, black and gold dust color. Not only will the glossy finish go great with Frankl’s glossy black lounge chair, but the orange and gold colors are a perfect contrast to the sharp black. Another characteristic of the skyscraper furniture style is the including of three sections in a furniture piece---and that’s just what this lamp does, creating three parts sectioned off by two gold-colored bands. The vertical stripes of the gold of the lamp base help accentuate the verticality of the piece, further complementing Frankl’s skyscraper piece. Finally, we love the contrast between the two tall, thin, elegant lamps and the squattier, wider lounge chair. Together, they make for a perfect balance in proportion.
