Designer Pet Beds and the SPCA!

We’re taking a bit of a break from bringing you the best looking Mid-Century, Murano and Hollywood Regency lamps and furniture today to talk about an issue important to all of us at Swank Lighting: animals! We’re all huge animal lovers here, so when our own Doug Taylor was asked to participate in a Dallas charity event to benefit the oh-so-important issue of SPCA’s spaying and neutering of pets, he jumped on immediately!

The event in question is the Paws Cause 2010, benefiting the SPCA Martin Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic and will take place on January 24th at Sambuca restaurant in Uptown Dallas. At this event there will be a silent auction of pet beds created by all sorts of business people and craftspeople of Dallas. When Doug was asked to contribute a Murano pet bed for the fundraiser, he immediately thought of Swank’s good friend Faith Schexnayder, who you may remember from the post we did on her amazing artwork (and who also created the awesome yard sculpture for Doug called "Phydo"). Together, Faith and Doug have been working on a pet bed the likes of which few will have ever seen! Using one of Faith’s signature materials, foam, the bed is really coming along!

We’ll be bringing you photos of the progress of the pet bed before it’s finished in late October, and we have some great starting photos for you today! And, if you don’t want to wait all the way until January to see or purchase one of these great beds for a good cause, each bed will be equipped with a “buy me now” price and will be displayed at the Highland Park Village in Dallas starting in November!
