A Perfect Pair: Platner and Vintage Swank Lighting!

It wasn’t hard to find a pair of Swank Lighting lamps to complement a Warren Platner piece of furniture, our designer influence from yesterday. Though his designs weren’t varied, they were simple, delightful, and with just the right touch of simplicity, industrial-ness and modernity. We think you’re going to love the combination we picked out today…

Of all of Platner’s furniture items, among which included side tables, dining tables, couches and chairs, we really fell the most for his stools. Little mushroom-shaped things, we love how they pack a style punch in such a small package. The contours of the piece are very feminine, yet contrast with the rigid metal of the piece’s frame. And we love the little upholstered poof on this piece---especially the color. It’s a purple-gray that perfectly goes with the undertones of the metal.

To put next to Platner’s adorable stool (which we understand is a first here for our weekly Perfect Pair series) we’ve chosen a pair of lamps (now currently available on 1stdibs!) that is oddly-shaped and a perfect color. Swank Lighting’s Vintage Murano Lamps in Lilac Grape from Archimede Seguso are a fabulously elongated pair of lamps with a thin, skinny neck. A bulbous bottom anchors each piece. The color is a rich, grayish-purple that seems almost cloudy. We love them!

We love what happens when you imagine the Platner stool next to these lamps. The stool’s stout appearance is both exaggerated and helped by the lamps’ almost overly-tall look. The colors, though not the same, are in themselves a sort of neutral—both being muddy, purplish-gray in tone, they complement each other perfectly. The lamp’s cloudy color and soft curves match the soft curves of the stool’s shape, but are also contrasted with the steel rigidity of the stool’s frame. Together they make a modern, yet haunting, pair!
