Contemporary Designer Profile: Tobi Fairley

Let’s have more contemporary designer profiles on the Swank Lighting blog, shall we? We’ll start with Tobi Fairley, the brilliant designer behind the gorgeous interiors show in the recent issue of House Beautiful Magazine—the one that also featured some Swank Lighting lamps. Yes, Fairley’s tastes are quite exquisite—she’s a fan of Swank Lighting after all!

Fairley has both a natural talent for interior design, but also plenty of schooling to back up that talent, having degrees in interior design, accounting and an MBA from Sam M. Walton College of Business. She’s been working in the design field for over ten years now, and she’s worked on design projects across the country for residential clients, and even some celebrity clients.

Fairley has a great knack for really sensing what a client wants most from their home’s design, therefore there’s a large variety of styles and colors portrayed in her long portfolio, but definitely Fairley does exhibit a signature style. Her interiors often feel young, sophisticated and fresh. Bright, with lots of colors, she loves to experiment with bold, large-scale geometric prints, but also relies heavily on the sophistication of using classic furniture styles. And of course, her rooms might look nice, but they also function great, as well.

Not just content to share her fabulous design style with her high-end clients, she also started a blog in September 2008, which was an immediate hit with everyone. She talks about the goings-on of her interior design firm, publishes fabulous interior photographs, shares her favorite design-y things and even gives out a few tips. Overall, you can gain a ton of inspiration on her blog—and poking through her online portfolio.

We’re not the only ones who are fans of Fairley, she was selected in 2009 by Traditional Home Magazine as one of the Top 20 Young Designers in America and her designs have been featured on HGTV, in Traditional Home Magazine, Better Homes and Gardens Magazine and House Beautiful Magazine. She’s even made the cover of At Home in Arkansas Magazine a whopping six times.

So what’s up for the future? Well, Fairley will no doubt continue to help beautify interiors across America, but she’s also working on designing products for a number of leading home design product companies, which will hopefully debut sometime in 2010. She also loves speaking at interior design events around the country, sharing more of that great style.
