A Perfect Pair: A Transat Chair and Ceramic Lamps!View Edit

Eileen Gray was the subject of our designer influence yesterday, and for many reasons: not only is her portfolio of furniture designs gorgeous, but they’ve made a huge impact on the world of design. We chose one of her lesser-known pieces of furniture for today, and frankly, we think you’ll be surprised by the outcome of when we combined it with a pair of Swank Lighting lamps.

We said yesterday that almost all of Gray’s furniture pieces were made of stainless steel or black leather. Well, many of her famous pieces, like the Bibendem Chair were. But, she also experiment in more natural-toned materials like wood and lighter colored upholstery fabrics. Her 1927 Transat chair is a perfect example. Still featuring her same sharp lines and modernist style, the Transat chair also has a natural wood frame and a lovely linen-colored cushion. We love how the horizontal line is highlighted in this piece.

Though most of the lamps we feature from Swank Lighting are made of vintage Murano glass, every now and then a pair of ceramic lamps really catches our eyes. These Mid-Century Ceramic Lamps by Deruta come packed with a ton of style. These ceramic lamps have an eye-catching striped pattern that gives the pieces such amazing energy, yet they also come with a lovely color palette that is full of warm and neutral colors, meaning that the lamp is also equal parts demure. We also really like the simple and feminine shape of the lamps.

Together, pairing the Gray Transat Chair with these gorgeous ceramic lamps makes perfect sense. They are absolutely and completely complementary. Both feature relaxed shapes that highlight the horizontal, cushions with the chair and stripes with the lamps. They both have gorgeously rich and neutral color palettes that meld with each other but also stand apart. They just look so great together—even though they’re from different time periods they look like they were made for each other!
