Contemporary Designer Profile: Michelle Workman!

When one thinks of a “Hollywood designer to the stars” one probably conjures up shiny accessories, luxurious furniture pieces and large palatial mansions. And while today’s Contemporary Designer profile subject certainly has some of those in her portfolio, you’ll also see plenty of homey, warm and comfortable residences in the repertoire of Michelle Workman.

Glancing through all the photos online at her website, we were bowled over by how each one looked so different! Proving, yet again, that the best designers are those who don’t design in just the style they like, but what their clients want, Workman’s designs aren’t without similar characteristics. For instance, we couldn’t help but notice that many of the spaces she has designed have a very strong feminine presence. That’s not to say girly—not by any means. Workman’s interiors are full of curvy furniture frames, heavy and silky fabrics, soft patterns, pillowy cushions and fresh colors. And though they are perfect for woman of all types, they work quite well for men, too!

Workman herself describes her style as “a mingling of the modern and vintage,” and she often looks to the Federal Period as her most favorite design inspiration (which is adorable, considering not many admit to a soft spot for Early American décor) and she also enjoys the influences of French styles in interiors. All this might imply that she designs only in traditional styles, which is not the case. Workman’s talents means she possesses the ability to respect and gain inspiration from the past’s successful styles, but also can create modern, fresh and contemporary spaces that her clients look for.

Workman was born in Los Angeles, California, and, like many great interior designers showed that she was an interior designer from a very early age. It didn’t take long for her childhood loves to manifest themselves into a fabulously successful interior design company, which has had the pleasure of counting among some of its clients celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, John Travolta & Kelly Preston, Kirstie Alley and Leah Remini. Taking her career to the next level, she’s recently opened a new home furnishings store called The Red House Interiors, located in Los Angeles, California. We love her style and her tastes (which happen to include Swank Lighting!) and know you’d find a ton of great inspiration from both her website and her blog.
