Stephen Sills might not use words, but the stories he creates with his interiors are vivid, epic and breathtaking.
Each one of the homes he designs for his clients become a visual book of their style, wishes and memories. His online portfolio reads like a chapter book: the Midwest home, the penthouse apartment, the museum view, the country retreat; each one tells the specific story of a family’s life: what they love and where they’re going.
Defining the common thread of his work is pretty easy: epic opulence. Not in a gold-plated way; but many ceilings are high, architectural details are strong and textures are sumptuous. Sills’ interiors don’t intimidate though; their power is they make anyone feel comfortable and like they deserve to be in such a beautiful space.
Did we also mention that he does commercial spaces, too? His public spaces are equally as lofty as his residential spaces. Full of light, comfortable seating and bright colors, we think his commercial spaces are just the sort of thing to tell stories in restaurants, retail stores, hotels and more.
Specializing in creating timeless and classic interiors, he knows how to mix and mingle modern and traditional. He also has a keen eye for respecting the architecture of a space, even highlighting it. Stephen Sills Associates is actually a pretty new firm; Sills had previously worked for Huniford Associates for 25 years until 2008 when he decided to strike out on his own. He’s designed for such famous clients as Vera Wang, Anna Wintour, Tina Turner, Jane Pratt and more. He’s been featured in publications like Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, House & Garden, Vogue, Maison & Jardin, W, New York Magazine, New York Times Magazine, Harper's Bazaar and others.
