This Etched Bronze Deep Red Lacquered Credenza, from Belgium in the 1970s, is a classic example of Matthias’ skill and talent. This piece features red-lacquered wood with exquisitely etched bronze doors in the style of a sun burst that starts off on the left hand side. Everything about this piece is manly in shape, but the delicately etched metal definitely gives it a real contrasting quality. Something like this would definitely make for a statement piece in a living room or dining room.
These Vintage Murano Stacked Font Lamps by Barovier & Toso from Italy in the 1950s are too beautiful for their own good. The color is what arrested us about these lamps at first. A deep jade green, the cloudiness of the color is full and rich-bodied, and an amazingly beautiful hue. But the shape is nothing to mess with, either. Made up of three stacked pieces that aren’t quite a cone or a ball, but a shape in-between, the shape gives the lamps a lot of energy. The shape would definitely contrast starkly with whatever background it was placed in front of. In case you’re still not sold, each glass piece is filled with 24KT gold dust, complemented by a gold-leafed base and satin brass hardware.
Before you get too upset with us mixing red and green (no, we’re not doing like stores and starting Christmas posts this early!) we’d like to remind you that red and green are contrasting colors. Meaning, their placement on the color wheel means they will absolutely vibrate when placed next to one another. We’re not sure what it was, but we decided to place a strong pair of lamps on top of this strong piece. The colors coordinate in a difficult but exciting way, and each have details—like the etched bronze or odd glass shape—that makes them powerfully individually and as a Perfect Pair!
