We've fallen pretty head over heels for this interior designer, Kendall Wilkinson. This San Francisco-based designer's rooms are rich, deep, sophisticated and full of amazing detail; we applaud her ability to pull together so many different styles to create beautiful and cohesive spaces. We think you'll find lots of inspiration with her!
The first room we saw that really blew us away was a bedroom with glossy turquoise walls full of same-color molding that made the room seem both steeped in history and right on contemporary. On the wall behind the bed was painted a stark white silhouette of a tree with beautiful song birds flying around it. The contrasting accent color for that room is a bright, modern orange, seen in bold and graphic curtains that go nearly from floor to ceiling. Zebra-print x-shaped stools live at the foot of a bed draped in white linens. Sorry to spend so much time talking about this one room, but we do so because we think it perfectly sums up how fabulously talented of a designer Wilkinson is.
Of course, not all her rooms are so glossy and bold, but they are all beautiful. Another more traditional room we saw that made us absolutely melt was a Seacliff Southern room. This living room has the most stunning view of the sea through gorgeous floor-to-ceiling picture windows. This would be difficult for any designer, because you don't want the designs of the room to compete with the view, but you still want the room to be something special. She somehow manages to accomplish both. A complicated color palette is pulled off perfectly, and lots of textures are mixed and matched to give the room depth and interest. Whereas any other designer may have faltered and produced a too over-stimulating room, Wilkinson strikes the perfect balance here.
All of her spaces strike that perfect balance. They're not too full and not too sparse. Just enough color and just enough neutrals. Wilkinson is like the Goldilocks of interior design-she's able to make rooms feel just right.
Wilkinson, who was a business owner, retailer and movie industry worker in a previous life, pursues the interior design profession with passion, fueled by tons of personal talent, experience and a lot of studies abroad in Paris. You definitely see where her love of French architecture and antiques influences her work. She also has a keen eye for trends and contemporary motifs, deftly mixing the two loves perfectly. You may have seen her work in Town & Country, Traditional Home, and InStyle and other shelter magazines.
