5 Favorite 1stdibs Items: One-of-a-Kind Pieces!

We've shown you before a combination of items that exhibit exotic qualities that could be added to a space to create just the hint of the global and the exotic. For this post we've picked a combination of pieces that seemingly have nothing in common (not aesthetically anyway). All showing different styles, we chose each one of these pieces due to its fabulous quality. Expensive, one-of-a-kind and eye-catching, these picks steal the show of any room!

1) Sideboard By Ettore Sottsass
When you think of 1980s design influences, it's hard not to think of Ettore Sottsass and the Memphis Group, a design group that challenged traditional ideals of design of the time to produce some of the most amazing-looking pieces ever. While perhaps not every one's cup of tea, it's hard to deny the unique qualities of this laminate and wood sideboard from 1982.

2) Pair of Early Pierre Paulin "Orange Slice" Chairs
It was almost impossible not to choose this excellent pair of Pierre Paulin chairs; we're huge fans of him already and these are amazing examples of his work. Contemporary and almost garishly-shaped, we love the color and it's resemblance to orange slices. The best part of this pair is the original buff color leather in excellent condition.

3) PYR Nr. 15 by Hans-Jörg Glattfelder
Both difficult to look at and difficult to pronounce, this Optical Art piece (Op Art) is traditional of this Swiss artist's work with geometric pyramid shapes and bright colors. Bringing definite texture to a wall, this piece would certainly draw attention. From 1969.

4) Kwangho Lee - Woven Lights
This light fixture is a more contemporary addition to our list, but no less extraordinary. Created in 2008, this multi-strand adjustable hanging chandelier is made of hand woven electrical cable. Part industrial and part fantasy, this piece would look great hanging over a dining table.

5) 19th C. Venetian sofa
This antique French sofa is gorgeous, but also a great example of the sort of piece one imagines when one considers this time period. Upholstered in a plain fabric, it really allows the gorgeous Venetian painted wood accent trim to shine through. And just look at those cabriole legs! Fabulous.
