This Week's Top 5 Favorite 1stdibs Items: The Power of the Motif!

Maybe you've got a great-looking room already, with gorgeous furniture, a perfect color scheme, and amazing art. Maybe something still feel missing, though. If you've been looking around your space lately and wishing it had a bit more personality or wit, you might be needing to incorporate a motif. A motif is a subtle, recurring element that runs throughout your space in the background. It could be just a color, pattern, or a specific element. Today we've chosen the motif of "bird" and found accessories that exhibit decidedly bird-like qualities. Placed around a room, these bird accessories would infuse your space with a clever, subtle, and underlying theme.

1) Large Carved Walnut Eagle
This carved eagle definitely screams bird, but it's also formal enough to be displayed in a formally decorated room. Mixed in with other casual bird pieces, even this serious walnut statue would become clever.
Price: $7,800
Dealer:
Alexander Westerhoff

2) Pair Of American Wood Carved Eagles
More eagles, but this time a more casual pair of this creature. We loved these carved birds, because they are of a serious subject but definitely have some humor to them. Being painted white helps with their casual feel, and we could definitely see these guys mixing in with other bird accessories.
Price: $16,000
Dealer:
Urban Country

3) 19th Century Tin Quilt Patterns
These tin quilt patterns in the shape of bird silhouettes are definitely subtle bird motifs, and would look great hung on a wall as wall art. We love that there isn't a lot of detail to them, just barely giving the impression of what they are, adding some mystery to these accessories.
Price: $850
Dealer:
M. Finkel & Daughter.

4) Cast Bronze Modern Owl by R.D. Wren
This bronze statuary is another great, subtle bird motif piece, and we love how the Mid-Century feel of this art sculpture would contrast nicely with the more realistic bird accessories. This is definitely a piece to add to a collection.
Price: $1,450
Dealer:
Polished Modern

5) Vistosi Bird
This glass accessory has more color to it than the other pieces in this post, but we like that it's not immediately recognizable as a bird. It would work well in creating a well-rounded collection of bird motif accessories for a space.
Price: $3,400
Dealer:
Coolhouse
