Top 5 1stdibs Items: Global Influences!

We've traveled to the future to bring you our favorite space-aged furniture finds from 1stdibs' newest listings. For this post, we're choosing a combination of items that exhibit definite exotic qualities. Whatever the style of your home, any of these accessories could be added to a space to create just the hint of the global and the exotic. Paired with a neutral palette and simple furniture, these pieces will pop as bright accents. Combined with an already bright room, they'll easily hold their own. Make sure to pay attention to the details of these pieces, some of their origins will surprise you.

1) Lacquered Wood Figure of Amitãbha, Yüan/Early Ming Dynasty
The richness to this statue is overwhelming. A lacquered wood figure of Amitãbha from the Yüan/Early Ming Dynasty of the late 14th century, we just love the details and the slight shine from the gilded lacquer. A piece like this would add instant interest to any room.

2) Chinese Deco Carpet
We are in love with the bright, earthy colors of this rug, along with the Deco patterns featured. Featuring shades of red, rust and turquoise, this would easily be the centerpiece to any space and be a great setting for any furniture to sit on top. From the 1930s, you get a definite Deco feel from this 12' X 9' rug.

3) Gladding, McBean Co. Glazed Clay Jar
Surprisingly, this gorgeous and bright jar isn't from some faraway exotic land---it's American, and it's from the 1900s-1920s. We can't help but feel it's bright, cobalt blue color would add a bit of spice to a space though. It's body depicts angels with instruments, hunters on horseback and foliate designs and it's signed "Gladding, Mcbean Co."

4) Bhuta Mask of a Boar's Face
Using cultural masks is a great way to bring an exotic feel to a space, and it's also a great way of adding sculptural and textural qualities to a wall composition. We just love this Bhuta Mask from Tulunadu, Karnataka, in Southern India. With a great, basic color it would look fabulous against a brightly colored wall.

5) African Baga Snake
Isn't this African Baga Snake just fabulous? We love the subdued colors, the solid wood material used and the texture that this would bring to any tabletop or room. Specifically from Guinea in the late 19th or early 20th century, this piece has some minor wear, but it easily gives it character.
