A Perfect Pair: László Two-Toned Cabinet and Murano Peacock Lamps

If you had the opportunity to check out yesterday’s Designer Influence post about Paul László, you no doubt saw his amazing talent in creating luxurious pieces of furniture. We fell in love with one of his pieces the most and combined it with a gorgeous pair of Swank Lighting lamps for today’s Perfect Pair!

We just love this cabinet made by László for the Brown-Saltman company in the 1950s. With a dynamic two-tone finish, the cabinet immediately acts almost more like a piece of art than just a piece of furniture. Heavy and sturdy, the piece creates quite an outline with its straight and modern lines. Never boring, the piece features a few details for interest, like molding details along the top and around the doors. The doorknobs are an over-sized and gorgeous detail, outlined with wood and of semi-circular brass. We even think this recently restored piece is a great price. If you are looking for a lot of storage, you’ve got it with this piece: “the doors open to reveal shelves and pull-out drawers…a perfect size for a flatscreen TV.”

With its heady mix of both modern and Hollywood regency, we would pair the László cabinet with a sumptuous pair of vintage Murano lamps to help highlight the glamorous side of the cabinet. This pair of lamps is by Giorgio Ferro and features an exquisite peacock feather design. In a bright, deep aqua blue, its finish is glossy and mesmerizing. The lamps themselves are composed of two stacked balls, with the top ball slightly smaller than the bottom ball. The stacked balls are placed on top of a complementing Lucite base. Stunning, surprising and bright, we just love the energetic feel of this pair of lamps.

Together, the Swank lamps and Laszlo cabinet absolutely sing. Firstly, blue and brown are a classic color combination, and the bright aqua and warm wood brown of both of the pieces are invigorating. Both the pieces also have a perfect combination of Mid Century Modern and Hollywood Regency, with clean lines and lots of fun details. Lastly, we just love the way all three pieces look together. We could easily see this combination in a dining room as a buffet or in a living room as a show stealer. Though it would be sad to see the pair broken up, we could even see just one of the lamps adorning the top of the László cabinet, with perhaps the other lamp taking up residence in another part of room.
