A Perfect Pair: Dixon and Fantoni!

Yesterday’s designer influence saw a modern designer who’s still around today creating innovative and somewhat shocking furniture creations. Instead of going for one of his wilder pieces to combine with a pair of Swank Lighting lamps, we decided to choose something a little more subdued. And after you see the Swank Lighting items we mixed it with you’ll see why!

Compared to some of his other work, Tom Dixon’s Slouch Double Seater is practically a snooze. There’s no wild materials, no wild lines, no crazy shapes. But, there’s something skillful and masterful about the way in which he created a seating item that both looks toward the future and reveres the past. This double seat couch features a smooth, biomorphous shape, without harsh edges or even strong lines. This gives off a super comfortable and relaxed feel. But, notice the upholstery material. It is an odd color—maroon, and it features a quilted pattern. Could this fabric be an ode to retro-modern fabrics? We think so.

We love when we get an opportunity to showcase a ceramic pair of lamps. Not that we don’t adore all of Swank Lighting’s Murano glass lamps, but ceramic lamps are rarer, and this lamp and vase is no exception. Called “Cityscape”, it’s a rare pair of vintage Fantoni lamp and vase, and we love everything about them. Made in Italy in the 1960s, they feature a fabulous abstracted cityscape pattern that really lends an artful feel to the pair. And the colors! The color palette is so retro and rich and full of fun colors to play off of in your interior spaces.

We chose a seating option that wouldn’t be too wild on its own, and Tom Dixon’s Slouch Double Seater was the perfect choice. It certainly has personality, but it also has the ability to complement other pieces and sink into the background of a lovely designed space. That’s why we went with Swank Lighting’s gorgeous Cityscape Fantoni lamp and vase. They have plenty of style and excitement and get to steal the show in this pair. We’re sure neither the seat nor the Fantoni mind the arrangement!
