This Week's Top 5 Favorite 1stdibs Items: Beauty Bursting at the Seams!

So much of what we show you on the Swank Lighting blog is controlled: Mid-Century Modern design was all about clean lines, function over form, no-frills kind of design. But sometimes, don't you just want to see something break loose? Burst at the seams? Go a little design crazy? We checked out today's newest listings from the fabulous website 1stdibs and chose five equally fabulous offerings. And not a single one of them would be described as orderly or controlled!

1) Austrian Sputnik by Bakalowits & Sohne
Otherworldly crystals shoot out from a central chrome sphere, dizzying the eye and making it seem like this ceiling light might continue on forever. Disorienting and shiny, you've got to admit this light has some spunk! (Or should we say, "sputnik"?)
Price: contact dealer
Dealer:
Venfield

2) Madrona Root Bench
Seeming to sprout out from the ground, this wildly natural and brightly-colored bench looks like it could just keep growing, absolutely bursting forth with creative energy and Mother Earth's strength and power.
Price: $4,800
Dealer:
Kirk Albert

3) German Sixties Sputnik Light
Obviously the Mid-Century Modern sputnik light design is a great option for a list all about home decor items that are busting at the seams with energy, and this one is no different. Though a little more subdued than its Austrian counterpart, we still feel the excitement from it.
Price: $2,800
Dealer:
Kerson 20th Century Design

4) Starburst Wall Sculpture
One can hardly see where this wall structure begins or ends, and adding it to your home's decor repertoire will add more than just a spice of metallic color to a space; it'll bring movement and energy to a wall.
Price: $895
Dealer:
Lawson-Fenning

5) Vintage Sculptural Brass Lamps by Curtis Jere
It seems almost unreal that a mere lamp could contain so much movement and energy, but these Curtis Jere lamps are proof that even a table lamp can burst forth excitement and barely contain its own self.
Price: $4,500
Dealer:
Swank Lighting
