This Week's Top 5 Favorite 1stdibs Items: Viva La France!

Last week we showcased a myriad of furniture options that celebrated our nation's birthday, the Fourth of July. We showed our patriotism with red, white and blue, and we're the better for it. Well it just so happens that this addition of this week's favorite items from the newest 1stdibs items happens to fall on Bastille Day! Now, you won't see more red, white and blue furniture options this time, even though those are the national colors of France, as well. Instead, we've gathered five lovely French pieces designed throughout the ages to celebrate that center of design, France!

1) The Versailles Palace Chair
Why not start with a piece of furniture that was actually around at the time of the French Revolution? This amazingly beautiful and stunningly expensive chair probably wouldn't make a great piece to put in a home that anyone actually uses, but darn if it's not an amazing piece of history (and good-looking, too).
Price: $124,500
Dealer:
M. S. Rau Antiques

2) Huge French Empire Style Alabaster Chandelier
Moving through time to the turn of the century, this lovely chandelier has many great French details, but also showcases the style of the time period, as well. While not the most recognizable French style, it still gives off a wonderful French air.
Price: $42,000
Dealer:
Hampton's Antique Galleries II

3) Louis Vuitton ‘Malle Chaussures’
Ahh, one of the most recognizable names in French fashion design, Louis Vuitton, is behind one of these sought after pieces, a "malle chaussures," which means shoe trunk. Though it was made for shoes, don't think it couldn't be adapted to fit any home decor needs.
Price: $68,500
Dealer:
Pullman Gallery

4) Fine One-of-a-kind Lacquered Cabinet by Leleu
Continuing with our historical tour of French design we find ourselves in the 1960's with a decidedly Mid-Century Modern and French-styled cabinet. Though it has the straight lines of the time period, it has French details and decorations that cannot be hidden.

Dealer:
Maison Gerard

5) Pierre Cardin Floor Lamp
Pierre is a wonderfully French name, and this lamp is a wonderful example of French design in the 1970's. A little decadent but also a little simple, it would fit in with a lot of different home decor styles.
Price: $4,800
Dealer:
Douglas Rosin
