Contemporary Designer Profile: Martyn Lawrence-Bullard

Martyn Lawrence-Bullard has been getting a lot of attention lately, and for many good reasons. Not only a designer to many A-list celebrities, his bold interiors take chances with color, pattern, style and every other way imaginable (and even some ways you can’t). His spaces aren’t for the faint of heart, but that’s what makes them so amazing!

Cher, Sir Elton John, Christina Aguilera, Eva Mendes, Ellen Pompeo, Kid Rock and the Osbournes. All these famous folks trust Lawrence-Bullard to create homes that are full of comfort and excitement, not run-of-the-mill. Skimming through photos of the spaces he’s created, you can tell instantly that he doesn’t stick to some design formula. He doesn’t even stick to one style. Each space is exquisitely tailored to suit the tastes of the client living within. Lawrence-Bullard is no mind-reader, but you can tell he possesses an uncanny ability to really understand what a client needs and wants in their home, and then delivers more than what they asked for.

Our favorite elements to his interiors are all the global details he so seamlessly adds. Moroccan patterns, Indonesian textiles—all the colors of the world are represented in his spaces, but in a way that feels genuine and authentic, not false. He’s also fierce with the art he chooses: one room features a pretty harrowing snake photograph collage that is certainly not for everyone, but that here creates an amazing visual statement. He’s also masterful at creating serene and relaxing spaces, filling rooms with soft colors and even softer textures.

We mentioned Lawrence-Bullard’s been getting a lot of attention in recent months, and you can count amongst that attention many accolades. He was just chosen for the Andrew Martin award (a top interior design award) and Architectural Digest Magazine named him one of the top interior designers in the world earlier this year. He’s been in plenty of the top shelter magazines (and will even be on the cover of Departures next). His future? According to a recent interview with shelter pop writer Laura Fenton, he wants to decorate for Lady Gaga.

Though he’s definitely most known for his great architectural work, we think his furniture designs were pretty great as well! Love what you see in this post but want more?
